Coming back year after year, perennials are fantastic value for money. Chestnut offers an extensive range of perennials for borders and containers, with varieties to grow in every situation, from sun to shade. The nursery is packed with wildlife-friendly perennials – the finest plants that provide a rich source of nectar and pollen for bees and beneficial insects.

Shrubs form the backbone of gardens: we stock a vast range of deciduous and evergreens to suit any situation – including full sun, part-sun, shade, dry soil and damp conditions. Whether you’re looking for a specimen shrub or low-grower to banish the sight of bare soil, you’ll find top-quality shrubs with eye-catching foliage, colourful bark and vibrant berries.

Naturalistic, prairie-style planting is enjoying a renaissance, and it’s a style that’s ideally suited to coastal, gravel and town gardens, as well as informal borders. Architectural grasses add movement to planting schemes, while bold canes of bamboos, adorned with evergreen foliage, add height, structure and drama: perfect for planting living screens to add privacy.

You’ll find a huge grow-your-own range at Chestnut. From tomatoes to beans (runner, French and broad), sweet corn, peppers, cucumbers, courgettes, onions, cabbage, salad crops and more, we stock all you need for a bumper harvest. Fresh herbs are on sale throughout the season, ready to infuse your favourite home-cooked dishes with flavour!

Our best-selling hedging plant, Griselinia littoralis (New Zealand broadleaf) is a fast-growing evergreen with vivid green leathery leaves that forms a neat, dense hedge. Ideally suited to our coastal climate, it’s easy to trim and shape. Other hedging options such as Elaeagnus are available, and our staff can advise on how many plants you need for your perfect hedge.

Exotics are in our DNA at Chestnut! From the giant, jungle-like leaves of Tetrapanax ‘Rex’ to mighty bananas and towering echiums, we’re packed with inspiration. Create a desert-like atmosphere with agaves and mangaves, and marvel at the giant, dark rosettes of Semponium ‘Destiny’. Check out the huge, heat-shaped leaves of our colocasias!

We stock top brands of peat-free and peat-reduced compost, as well as John Innes No. 1, 2 and 3 blends and ericaceous compost for acid-loving plants. Well-rotted farmyard manure will add nutrients to your soil, while bark mulch keeps weeds down in beds and borders. Treat indoor plants to our premium houseplant, citrus, cacti/succulent and bonsai compost.

Chestnut offers top-performing liquid and granular fertilisers, including Growmore, Blood, Fish & Bone and Bonemeal – plus specialist feeds for tomatoes, roses, hydrangeas, ericaceous plants and more.
